LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- Wisconsin's new senator, Tammy Baldwin, is back in Washington, ready to being her first term.
Baldwin visited La Crosse last week before heading off to the Capitol. Baldwin was sworn in January 3, but then returned to Wisconsin to tour the state, talking to people about what they want to see happen during the congressional session.
After representing the Madison district in the House of Representatives, Baldwin says she's excited to represent a larger constituency.
"The big difference, for me, is representing the whole state," Baldwin said. "It's funny, a house district has arbitrary boarders so sometimes you have to say, sorry I can't help you, to someone across a county line. So to be able to fight for hardworking Wisconsin families, no matter where they live, trying to grow the economy."
Baldwin also says she's working with Wisconsin's other senator, Republican Ron Johnson, to find areas to work together.
