US Senator Baldwin on "Made in Wisconsin" Tour

GLENDALE, Wis. — U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin made her first official visit to Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Baldwin spent the morning checking out Johnson Controls' re-engineered Micro Hybrid vehicle and the battery maker's Glendale facility.

She said it's part of her Made in Wisconsin tour.

"Seeing how I can bring the best practices back to Washington. There's too many political games back there, and we need to keep a solid focus on job creation," Baldwin said.

While focusing on jobs, she said she understands the nation is watching the gun-control debate following the deadly school shooting in Connecticut.

"I strongly support the Second Amendment, but I absolutely believe the Second Amendment is consistent with efforts to save lives and promote safety," Baldwin said.

The freshman senator said she believes there's more common ground in Washington than many think.

Baldwin said she would like to see tougher laws on background checks for gun purchases.

"Gun shows. Craigslist sales. You know, folks running into each other in social settings and saying 'Hey I want to sell my gun,'" Baldwin said.

There's a lot on Baldwin's agenda, but she said she's ready for the ride.

Baldwin will return to Washington, D.C., this weekend and goes back into session next week.
