Baldwin Announces $2.5 Million to Support Wisconsin Agricultural Innovation

Funding will produce organic fertilizers as world faces fertilizer shortage

WISCONSIN – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that Dairy Dreams LLC in Casco, Wisconsin, will receive more than $2.5 million to help launch the production of organic fertilizers. The investment comes as the low supply and increased expense of fertilizer across the world is contributing to rising food prices and increased hunger. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fertilizer Product Expansion Program.

“Wisconsin’s agriculture community helps feed the world, and as many of them innovate and scale up operations to meet the global demand, I am proud to deliver the resources they need to grow their business and drive our Wisconsin agriculture economy forward," said Senator Baldwin.

Dairy Dreams will use the funding to offset equipment costs and building improvements associated with launching the production of organic fertilizers, including constructing a nutrient concentration system and a pelleting system on a dairy farm to convert manure to domestically manufactured fertilizer, making it easier for farmers to access organic liquid and pellet fertilizers.  The technology will also convert one-third of manure inputs into clean, dischargeable water and is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the hauling and disposal of manure.
