Baldwin Delivers $15 Million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding to Replace the John Nolen Drive Bridges in Madison

WISCONSIN – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that Wisconsin will receive $15.1 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to replace the John Nolen Drive Bridges in Madison. The funding, coming from the Baldwin-supported law, is part of a $300 million investment from the Bridge Investment Program that is repairing and replacing bridges across the country.

“I voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law because it is updating our crumbling infrastructure to keep Wisconsinites safe, strengthen our supply chain, and create good-paying jobs,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “I am proud to be bringing home this funding to the Madison community to ensure that drivers, bikers, and walkers can all do so safely, businesses can get their products to market on time, and consumers save money – putting Wisconsin to work doing it all.”

The grant will help replace six bridges along the John Nolen Drive Causeway that approximately 45,000 vehicles travel each day on. The six two-lane bridges—three northbound and three southbound—along the corridor are 48 to 55 years old. The improvements will address several transportation challenges, including poor structural integrity and a dangerous roadway and intersections. The project will improve safety for bikers and pedestrians by supporting a separated bike-pedestrian path, enhanced traffic signals and street lighting, smart technologies to manage traffic, and green infrastructure.
