WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement after the Senate failed to advance the Department of Defense (DoD) Appropriations Act, 2016:
“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I was able to ensure the FY 2016 Defense Appropriations bill includes important funding that supports Wisconsin’s manufacturing economy and our servicemembers.
“However, this defense bill is inflated with one-year budget gimmicks and locks in deep and automatic cuts to investments in health care, scientific research, transportation, education, and other middle-class priorities that strengthen our economic security at home.
“It’s time for Republicans to come to the negotiating table and join with Democrats to find a bipartisan solution to their flawed approach. America needs a budget that addresses not just military security — but also homeland security, health security, and economic security."
