Baldwin Visits Beloit to Highlight Investment in Small Businesses and Support for Public Safety

BELOIT, WI – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin visited Beloit to highlight her support for Made in Wisconsin small and minority-owned businesses through the American Rescue Plan and meet with the Beloit Police Department to discuss public safety.

“I supported the American Rescue plan to support Wisconsin’s small businesses and ensure we have strong local economies. But, to create a resilient business community here in Rock County, we need diverse businesses and diverse business owners,” said Senator Baldwin. “I am proud to have helped secure this $1 million investment that will make a real difference for these small businesses here in Rock County, creating good-paying jobs and boosting the local economy.”

Senator Baldwin visited the Empowerment and Care Center in Beloit to highlight the $1 million federal investment she helped secure for the Rock County Jumpstart to support small and minority-owned businesses, create good-paying jobs, and boost the local economy. The funding for Jumpstart comes from the Baldwin-supported American Rescue Plan Act through a Diverse Business Assistance Grant, an initiative to provide local Black and Latino entrepreneurs with the necessary training, tools, and resources to start and sustain a successful business. The Empowerment and Care Center is supported by Rock County Jumpstart and provides women and families with mental health support, birthing services, life coaching and mentoring.

Senator Baldwin also visited the Beloit Police Department and participated in a ride along to learn about the challenges the department faces and the Senator’s successful work delivering funding to increase public safety. Last year, Senator Baldwin helped pass legislation to invest more than $230 million in community policing grants, funding for police mental health support, funding for body-worn cameras, and resources to help train police to safely manage situations with people facing mental health challenges.
