U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Announces $25,000 Grant to Help Rebuild Brokaw

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today announced a $25,000 grant for the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NCWRPC) to develop the Brokaw Economic Recovery Plan. Senator Baldwin fought for the grant funding in a letter to Commerce Secretary Ross.

“I am pleased to announce this investment that will help Brokaw continue to recover and rebuild,” said Senator Baldwin. “The Brokaw Economic Recovery Plan will bring our communities together for a comprehensive effort to promote stability and drive economic growth. Together, we can help build a stronger future.”

Brokaw, Wisconsin and its residents have faced financial hardships after the actions of an out-of-state activist hedge fund led to the closure of a paper mill that had provided good jobs to the town for over 100 years.

The $25,000 Economic Development District Planning grant will be used to support the NCWRPC in partnership with the Village of Maine and Town of Texas with the development and implementation of the Brokaw Economic Recovery Plan. Once completed, this plan will bring together public and private sectors to assist with the economic recovery of the Village of Brokaw.

Last month, Senator Baldwin announced over $4 million in USDA Rural Development funding to help improve the water system in Brokaw.

Senator Baldwin then returned to Brokaw to introduce the bipartisan Brokaw Act, which strengthens oversight of Wall Street to ensure that no other small towns like Brokaw fall victim to activist hedge funds.
