WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today announced a $300,000 grant to combat the opioid epidemic in Kenosha County. The Department of Justice award to Kenosha County will help support a new approach in connecting overdose survivors with treatment services.
“I’m pleased to announce this new investment to help combat the opioid epidemic in Kenosha County,” said Senator Baldwin. “Together, we can take on this epidemic and increase access to prevention, treatment and recovery services.”
The grant will help the Kenosha County Department of Human Services implement the Kenosha County Opioid Overdose Reduction Project, which builds upon the Wisconsin Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose-Related Deaths Prevention Project (WI-PDO) to utilize peer specialists to link overdose survivors with treatment. Additionally, the project will also create a community education campaign about opioid abuse, harm reduction and abuse treatment alternatives.
The grant was awarded through the Department of Justice’s Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Site-based Program, which is funded because of the passage of the 21st Century Cures and the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), bipartisan legislation supported by Senator Baldwin.
