U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Tours Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design to Highlight Importance of Apprenticeship Programs

MILWAUKEE, WI – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today toured Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) to highlight the importance of apprenticeship programs and discuss MIAD’s AIM High Wisconsin public-private partnership apprenticeship initiative.

Prior to the tour of MIAD, Senator Baldwin led a roundtable discussion on apprenticeships with Milwaukee education, manufacturing and business leaders from MIAD, GE Healthcare, Colectivo Coffee, Cramer Krasselt and more.

MIAD’s AIM High Wisconsin initiative, a public-private partnership that provides internship and mentoring experiences to foster career pathways and employment, was the recipient of a $3 million American Apprenticeship Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Labor in 2015.

“Apprenticeship initiatives are one of the most effective vehicles for responding to the workforce readiness needs of business and industry. MIAD’s AIM High Wisconsin initiative is a prime example of the benefit Wisconsin sees from investing in apprenticeship programs,” said Senator Baldwin. “As a member of both the U.S. Senate Competitive Caucus and the Career and Technical Education Caucus, I have been proud to work across party lines to support a number of reforms to invest in apprenticeship initiatives because they can help us raise worker incomes and create stronger economic growth.”

Senator Baldwin has championed support for apprenticeship programs as an investment in Wisconsin’s workforce readiness. She fought for the bipartisan Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which expands apprenticeship opportunities like AIM High Wisconsin.
