Senator Baldwin Announces Nearly $35 Million to Expand Affordable Tribal Housing

Funding from Baldwin-backed bill helps new housing construction, rehabilitation, and housing services

WISCONSIN – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced she helped secure $34.8 million to support housing and community development projects for tribal communities in Wisconsin. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Program, which was funded by the Baldwin-backed 2024 annual government funding bill.

“Affordable housing is out of reach for too many, particularly in tribal communities, and we need to do more to expand affordable housing options to give people the peace of mind they deserve,” said Senator Baldwin. “I am proud to bring home this funding to help our tribal communities build more housing and make critical repairs of existing homes to ensure their members have a safe place to lie their heads at night.”

Through the IHBG program, HUD provides grants to help develop, maintain, and operate affordable housing in safe and healthy environments in tribal communities.
