Senator Baldwin Applauds Biden Administration’s Approval of Casino in Beloit

Decision allows Ho-Chunk Nation to move forward with construction of long-anticipated casino project

WISCONSIN – Today, the Department of the Interior (DOI) approved the Ho-Chunk Nation’s application for a casino in Beloit. The announcement comes after Senator Baldwin has advocated to three different administrations for the DOI to approve the project, citing the anticipated economic impact on Beloit, Rock County, and the State of Wisconsin, as well as increased revenue for the Ho-Chunk Nation.

“The Ho-Chunk casino in Beloit will be an economic boon to the Rock County area, creating thousands of good paying jobs, supporting additional business development, and enabling long needed infrastructure improvements for the area” said Senator Baldwin. “After a decade of working alongside state, local, and Ho-Chunk tribal leaders, I am proud to see this project move forward to create family supporting jobs in the community and support the Ho-Chunk Nation with a long-term source of revenue to provide essential housing, educational, and health programs for their members.”

Ho-Chunk Nation first submitted an application for the project with the DOI’s Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in 2012, with Senator Baldwin’s support. Senator Baldwin has since advocated for the DOI to approve the project expeditiously, writing multiple letters to the DOI Secretaries. The City of Beloit, Rock County and surrounding towns have long-supported this project because of anticipated job growth in the area, particularly as Rock County’s unemployment rate remains high.
