Senator Baldwin Delivers Over $13 Million to Expand Access to EV Charging Stations in Dane County

Baldwin secured strong Buy America standards in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to build out clean energy infrastructure

DANE COUNTY, WI – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced that with her support Dane County has been awarded $13.2 million in federal funding to build a network of publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, giving more Wisconsinites transportation options, supporting the Made in Wisconsin economy, and reducing emissions to boost the health of residents.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is investing in Wisconsin’s future, creating countless good-paying jobs upgrading the infrastructure that families rely on to get to work and school. I am proud to have secured strong Buy America standards to ensure that we are using American workers and American products while we build out the infrastructure to give people more ways to travel around our state,” said Senator Baldwin. “I worked hard to deliver this funding which invests in emission-free vehicle infrastructure, helping to improve the air our children breathe and creating more opportunities for Wisconsin workers to break into a family-supporting career that will only grow in the coming years.”

“Getting the Charge Up Dane County grant funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation is great news for our communities because it will allow more residents to choose electric vehicles. Expanding the EV charging infrastructure will help Dane County continue to lead the way on sustainability measures that help combat climate change,” said Dane County Executive Jamie Kuhn. “Thank you to Senator Baldwin and everyone in the coalition who helped get this grant funded.”

Dane County will receive $13.2 million to install 92 Level 2 and DC Fast Charging EV stations with a total of 368 publicly accessible ports. The funding will bring EV charging to high-density urban and suburban areas as well as rural areas while eliminating gaps in charging availability.

In addition to pushing the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to support this project, this investment is funded by the Baldwin-backed Bipartisan Infrastructure Law through FHWA’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program (CFI).
