Senator Baldwin Highlights Cutting Prescription Drug Prices and Delivering Affordable Health Care in Waukesha and Milwaukee

Baldwin also spoke at Veterans Chamber of Commerce event to discuss her work connecting veterans to their earned benefits and health care

WISCONSIN – Today, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) visited Waukesha and Milwaukee to highlight her work lowering the price of prescription drugs for Wisconsin seniors through the Inflation Reduction Act and delivering nearly $3 million for Milwaukee’s Federally Qualified Health Centers in order to expand access to affordable care for Milwaukee’s residents. Senator Baldwin also stopped by the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce Business Conference to discuss her work connecting veterans to their earned benefits and health care.

“Too many Wisconsinites can’t afford their prescription drugs or access the health care they need because of skyrocketing costs and I’m proud to have tackled this head-on – taking on big drug companies to lower the price of prescription drugs for our seniors and delivering resources to expand access to quality health care for Milwaukee residents,” said Senator Baldwin.

On Tuesday, Senator Baldwin toured the Waukesha Free Clinic and joined local seniors and stakeholders to discuss the impact of cutting prescription drug prices. Senator Baldwin has long advocated for lowering prescription drug prices and helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which gives Medicare the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices, caps the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 per month, and caps Medicare beneficiaries out of pocket costs at $2,000 per year. Last month, Medicare announced the first 10 drugs selected for price negotiation, which include vital drugs to treat life-threatening conditions including diabetes, heart failure, and cancer.

Senator Baldwin also attended a ribbon cutting at Outreach Community Health Centers (OCHC) in Milwaukee to celebrate a new expansion she supported. The expansion will help OCHC serve more patients and provide critical behavioral health and primary care services to uninsured, underinsured, and homeless populations. Senator Baldwin worked with Representative Gwen Moore to secure nearly $3 million in the 2023 federal funding legislation for Milwaukee Health Services to support infrastructure investments like this one that promote patient and staff safety, accessibility, and wellness at federally-qualified health centers in Milwaukee.

Senator Baldwin joined the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce for a fireside chat on her work to connect Wisconsin veterans with their earned benefits. Senator Baldwin’s office routinely connects veterans with their VA benefits, cutting through red tape to ensure Wisconsin veterans can access the benefits and health care they have earned.
