WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement after voting to avoid a government shutdown:
“Hard-working Wisconsinites should never pay the price because of political games in Washington. A government shutdown would have unnecessarily hurt Wisconsin families, our economy, and our troops, and I am proud to have voted to avoid it. Democrats and Republicans came together to ensure needy families and kids will have food on the table, our law enforcement and servicemembers will get their paychecks, and our economy will keep moving forward. This bipartisan compromise will give us the time we need to pass responsible government funding bills – as the House, Senate, and White House all agreed to – and I look forward to continuing to fight to deliver for Wisconsin in that process. While I am disappointed that this bill did not include resources to help Ukraine defend itself against Putin’s war, I remain committed to working with my colleagues to provide Ukrainians the assistance they need.”
