U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representatives vote on Tuesday to pass the Jason Simcakoski PROMISE Act:
“Today’s vote in the House of Representatives is an important step forward for bipartisan VA reforms that I have been working to advance in Congress,” said Senator Baldwin. “Our veterans and their families are facing the difficult challenges of physical injuries, addiction, PTSD and other mental illnesses. I have worked with medical professionals, veterans’ service organizations, and the Simcakoski family to provide stronger oversight of the VA’s prescribing practices of opiates and better care for our veterans. My goal is to put these reforms in place to prevent Jason’s tragedy from happening to other veterans and their families.
Last week, the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs announced that bipartisan VA reforms Senator Baldwin introduced in her Jason Simcakoski Memorial Opioid Safety Act have been included in legislation moving forward in the U.S. Senate.
