Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement on President Obama’s State of the Union address tonight:
“Tonight the President focused squarely on how we need to move our economy forward and strengthen the middle class. While we have made a lot of progress coming back, in large part due to the President’s policies, going forward both parties in Congress need to work on continued progress instead of partisan politics.
“We need to have both parties focused on creating stronger economic growth and shared prosperity because our greatest challenge is making sure a growing economy is working for everyone, not just those at the top. That is why I support the President for offering plans to make the wealthy pay their share of taxes so we can cut taxes for the middle class and make higher education more affordable.
“There is no question that our national economy is moving forward, but unfortunately our Wisconsin economy continues to lag behind so I will continue work across party lines to build a strong Made In Wisconsin manufacturing economy and close the innovation deficit by investing in science, research and technology. Both parties should be able to agree that we need stronger economic growth that reaches more people, so we need to work together to make sure everyone has a fair shot to get ahead.”
