WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement today in response to Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement of House Republican ideas about poverty:
“It’s good news that Speaker Ryan and House Republicans are acknowledging the need for Washington to act on combating poverty, however Americans living in poverty deserve better than recommendations and a promise to wait for Donald Trump to solve this problem.
“In the Senate, I will soon be introducing bold legislation to confront this problem because Americans living in poverty need action. I believe we need to meet the challenge of lifting people up and out of poverty with respect, dignity and opportunity. This is a problem that government cannot confront alone, it is going to take a national commitment and legislative action to put real solutions in place that create real opportunities for people struggling in poverty. America can do better and we must do better to take poverty on.”
