U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Announces More Than $1.3 Million to Support Senior Volunteer Services in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today announced that Wisconsin will receive $1,344,374 in funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) that will support Senior Corps members serving the community with local organizations.

“Wisconsinites are committed to serving their communities more than ever, and hundreds of thousands of men and women have answered the call to service. And those who serve not only have the opportunity to make a difference, they develop valuable skills and find a passion for service that lasts a lifetime. These grants will help organizations continue to expand their reach to engage more people and bring communities together in our state,” said Senator Baldwin. “I want to thank all those who have served in Senior Corps in Wisconsin and across the country, and the organizations that have made their service possible. Given the stiff competition for these grants, only the most exceptional proposals are funded and I am especially proud of these Wisconsin organizations and the work they are doing.”

This funding will support 11 organizations and 3,093 Senior Corps volunteers in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) that will support senior services in Wisconsin. The funds were awarded as part of a Senior Corps grant competition to increase the impact of national service in new or specific geographic areas. Each year, Senior Corps engages approximately 220,000 Americans 55 and older. Through RSVP, Senior Corps volunteers recruit and manage other volunteers, mentor and tutor disadvantaged children, respond to natural disasters, support workforce development by providing job readiness training, offer free tax preparation and more.

Below is a listing of 2020 Senior Corps RSVP grants in Wisconsin:

MADISON

  • RSVP of Dane County: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will provide transportation support for seniors, veterans, and ambulatory disabled to appointments; and packing and delivering meals to frail elderly to reduce isolation and enable seniors and veterans to remain independent; and serve in other community priority assignments helping nonprofit, public agencies, and schools extend their services to people in need. ($216,559 grant; 1200 Senior Corps members)

MOUNT PLEASANT

  • Volunteer Center of Racine, Inc.: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will provide food delivery, income tax preparation assistance, companionship and complimentary transportation services to older adults. ($102,259 grant; 230 Senior Corps members)

LA CROSSE

  • Friends of Coulee Region Retired and Senior Volunteer Program: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will help needs of local seniors and community organizations by enhancing the mission, performance, and success of over 80 current partnered non-profit organizations. ($83,118 grant; 125 Senior Corps members)

STEVENS POINT

  • Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will deliver meals to qualifying older adults and adults with disabilities, lead evidence-based health promotions classes, transport veterans to Veteran Affairs health care facilities, and other service activities to support community priorities. ($91,144 grant; 92 Senior Corps members)

WAUKESHA

  • ERAs Senior Network, Inc.: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will tutor children at public schools, help individuals with disabilities, including veterans, by providing transportation and food delivery, and serve at thrift stores and local schools. Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will also provide transportation and socialization support to seniors, give elder justice presentations to groups of older adults, and meet individually with older adults through a network of local organizations. (Two grants: $160,887 for 250 Senior Corps members; $89,200 for 240 Senior Corps members)

WEST BEND

  • Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will provide transportation for home bound seniors and veterans to preventive/medical appointments and other services that allow them to live independently; be trained in Elder Abuse Prevention in order to identify and mitigate elder abuse of financial fraud, abuse and/or neglect; provide education on Elder Abuse prevention to at-risk seniors and their caregivers and provide outreach and education within the community; operate a durable medical equipment loan and resource referral program. ($82,500 grant; 185 Senior Corps members)

FOND DU LAC

  • ADVOCAP, Inc.: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will provide transportation, companionship, nutrition/food support, student support in elementary schools, and donations management. ($187,454 grant; 325 Senior Corps members)

GRAFTON

  • Interfaith Caregivers of Ozaukee County, Inc.: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will support transporting seniors to medical appointments, food pantries and grocery stores; visiting seniors to provide companionship and combat isolation; providing education and guidance to seniors, volunteers and the community on an array of issues pertinent to senior safety, the prevention of elder abuse and the reduction of senior isolation; providing seniors and the community with access to medical mobility equipment for a small, refundable fee; coordinating community engagement projects that will help seniors feel supported and connected to the community; and providing respite services to caregivers of seniors. ($82,500 grant; 130 Senior Corps members)

RHINELANDER

  • Oneida County: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will support the delivery of home-delivered meals, transportation for medical and nutritional purposes, assistance at food pantry distribution sites, tax preparation assistance and other services that assist older adults to remain successfully at home and avoid institutionalization. ($82,500 grant; 150 Senior Corps members)

SUPERIOR

  • Northwest Community Services Agency: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will assist with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in greeting clients and preparing taxes; secure donations through the Koffee Korner and gift shop; and participate in the distribution of food items at a food pantry, assisting in the monthly distribution of senior food boxes and distribution of information to the community. ($82,500 grant; 82 Senior Corps members)

GREEN BAY

  • Volunteer Center, Inc.: Senior Corps RSVP volunteers will support weekly tutoring of elementary school students, delivering meals to homebound seniors, and being a companion shopper to the elderly. ($83,753 grant; 84 Senior Corps members)
