Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin made the following statement regarding the Administration announcement of Clean Power Plan.
“The question is not whether climate change is occurring, but how America is going to take it on. Let there be no doubt, global climate change is real, it is a fact that we must confront. Our Wisconsin economy faces a growing threat from climate change that demands action. The Clean Power Plan is a bold proposal that offers guidelines and the opportunity for a state-federal partnership to cut carbon pollution from existing power plants, the single largest source of carbon pollution in the United States.
“In Wisconsin, our energy industry has made great progress working to reduce our carbon emissions and I am pleased that the draft proposal includes the flexibility and timeframe necessary to allow our state to choose from a variety of options to continue down a path to leave the next generation a safer, healthier world. We have a strong tradition in Wisconsin of taking on big challenges and by taking on climate change we can help build a stronger economy. Wisconsin is a national leader in the areas of clean energy science, research and innovation and this is an opportunity for us to continue our leadership developing cleaner energy sources, cutting energy waste, and creating Made in Wisconsin clean energy jobs.”
