Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement today regarding President Obama’s announcement of changes to the United States’ diplomatic relations with Cuba and the release of Alan Gross:
“This is a historic and positive step forward where President Obama has asserted American leadership to chart a new course and reestablish diplomatic relations with Cuba. More than 50 years of U.S. policy to isolate Cuba has not achieved our national security objectives, created hardship for the Cuban people, and failed to weaken the Cuban regime. I am especially pleased that Alan Gross has been released and has returned to his family. I look forward to working with the Obama Administration and my Congressional colleagues toward a more effective policy that strengthens America’s national security and supports democratic and human rights reforms in Cuba.”
