Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin made the following statement on the resignation of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki.
“I am deeply troubled by the interim report from the VA Inspector General. It is simply unacceptable that inappropriate scheduling practices have been found to be systemic at veterans’ hospitals across the country. While this investigation moves forward it is vitally important that the Department of Veterans Affairs increase their oversight to ensure that VA facilities in Wisconsin and across the country are reporting accurate data and delivering to our veterans the care they deserve. There are serious, longstanding problems at the VA that need to be solved. Secretary Shinseki is a disabled veteran who has committed his life to public service and we should all honor that service to our country. His resignation will not simply solve the problems that exist at the VA, but I am hopeful it will create an opportunity to put solutions in place and for everyone to embrace our shared responsibility to ensure that our veterans receive the benefits and care they’ve earned.”
